Broken by Breakfast

Resentment stirs as soon as I enter the kitchen. Most mornings, I hurry to get his juice, banana, and coffee to the table before he comes out his room. Setting it out before an empty chair seems like I am less a servant, and oddly, easier. Today, I am late.
Dealing with Lying

A young parent recently emailed me a question about how to handle lying. His daughter is in grade school, and has been testing the limits recently. I suspect all kids go through this - or at least all seven of our have!
When our children hit this phase, we sat down and talked about trust. We defined it. We found building the character quality of trust worked better than focusing on the lie or catching the child in their next lie. We shared biblical references on lying and trustworthiness, forming a common belief system with our children. We memorized these verses together. We prayed for wisdom.

Talk to Me
Submitted by kim on Fri, 03/02/2012 - 09:19 in Marriage
Our marriage has been in a whirlwind since November when Rich started working out of town. He was gone four nights a week for eleven weeks. We had never dealt with this sort of arrangement, and it required purposeful adjustments.
Then suddenly, four weeks ago, Rich was home. A lot. He was laid off. We went from three months of not having enough time together to having too much. We've struggled through the last month, forgetting much of what we know about good communication. We've forgotten that we know we have to work on communicating. And just when we thought we had a handle on things last week, his company called and sent him out of town for seventy-two hours - over a weekend that was full of plans!
