Where to Begin to Teach Thankfulness?

Submitted by kim on Tue, 10/26/2010 - 19:38 in Character Building

This morning when I reached for my bible, I realized I had left it at my daughter's home when I visited her last weekend.  My back up bible is an old one with most of Galatians, Ephesians, Philippians, and Colossians falling out.  It had been my mother-in-law's.  Her favorite books are not only obvious due to the wear, but also her excessive underlining and notes in the margin.

Though fragile, I like reading the worn pages, knowing she once read, studied and meditated the same words, the same treasures.

A Fox Called Ingratitude

One of the foxes that lurks this time of year is ingratitude.  As commericals flood the television with the latest toy and the Christmas trees start appearing in stores, it is very easy for all of us to focus on what we want this upcoming season rather than what we are thankful for.  Thankfulness is not an attitude that just happens in our home or in our hearts.  It is something that must be cultivated over and over again.  We can catch that fox by purposefully developing thankfulness.  I look forward to sharing some ideas this week that will hopefully be easy for you to implement in your homes.  May the whole month of November be one of Thanksgiving!

Direction

I have struggled since the start of this blog to come up with a format that works.  My original goal was to write to encourage wives and moms as they minister in their homes.  There are hundreds of web sites and blogs that do just that, and finding a niche for Catching Foxes has been difficult.  What topics do women want to read about?

The Power of Smiling at Your Husband

Submitted by kim on Wed, 09/01/2010 - 14:10 in Homemaking, Marriage

Years ago on a frosty winter night I found myself at a table for four in a the cozy little house that had been converted to a restaurant.  My date had arranged the evening so I could meet his best friend, Andi.  What I didn't know prior to sitting at the table was that Andi was female, and she was married to Dave.

My relationship with my date didn't last. But at the time, I really liked him. So I was intrigued by Andi.  Obviously, there was something about her that was like-able if she had earned the status of best friend to a guy!

I spent the evening watching her.  Something about her has stayed with me for decades. Andi smiled at Dave constantly.

Guest Blog - Getting Started

I've had the privilege over the years to get to know some delightful young women and watch them transition through various stages.  My guest blogger today, Jessica A. is one of those special ladies.  Her love of the Lord has always been an encouragement to me and I trust she will encourage you as you consider how you spend your free time each day.
