If you've read the Write Next to Me© project and are interested in learning how to implement the ideas, a Write Next to Me Writing Community might be what you're looking for!
New this fall, Write Next to Me© author, Kim Rankin, is facilitating writing communities in the local St. Louis area for homeschool parents and their students. Participants will be encouraged to keep a writer's notebook and use it as the foundation of their writing. Lessons in the writing process, writer's workshop, grammar and mechanics, and various genres of writing will be covered. The Write Next To Me Writing Community is ideal for students in grades 5-12.
Unlike the some homeschool co-ops that permit student drop-offs, parents are expected to attend all of the weekly writing community meetings. A portion of the time together will be dedicated to a parents' meeting, where Kim will offer professional development on teaching writing in the homeschool setting. Parents will learn how to implement writing strategies across their curriculum, have a place to ask questions about teaching, grading and improving writing, and form a support network with other parents concerned about quality writing instruction.

Not in St. Louis? A limited number of families are testing the idea of participation in a writing community via Skype and email. Please contact Kim for more information.
