Making Our School Space Work

Once upon a time, last September actually, an old door in our garage....
became a desk in our family room.
But I was too busy with my college classes and teaching in our homeschool to make it charming. This week, I'm attempting charming.
We homeschool in our family room. Eight years ago we built bookcases in another corner of the house thinking that space would become our school room. Nope, everyone likes to work where it feels comfy. First step was to move all the bookshelves into the family room.
Found this adorable print as a free download at Eighteen25. (Thank you!) I did not put glass in the frame because I have a hunch it might take a tumble to the ground now and again when the boys get their books off the shelves.
Due to different ceiling heights of the two rooms, we had to cut the top shelf off the bookcases before reinstalling them. The wood from the cut off pieces became the new shelves over the desk. I love my creative carpenter husband! I've had this giant pencil and eraser for years. I love them too! (But not as much as I love the carpenter.) Happy to have found a spot to display them.
The room is still a work in progress. I am hoping to get everything still on the table sorted and put away today.
