Sugar Cookie Ice Cream Bowls
Submitted by kim on Tue, 05/29/2012 - 08:58 in Homemaking, Recipes
One of my goals over Memorial Day weekend was to make menus for the next two weeks and get the grocery shopping accomplished. With the chaos of finishing my college classes and out of town company at the house for celebrations, it felt great to plan for some normal days. I love party days, but I also like normal days, and making normal days feel like a party.
I've seen posts on Pinterest for chocolate ice cream bowls.
Side note - Are you on Pinterest? I am addicted! Follow me here.
Those chocolate bowls gave me an idea. I decided to try making cookie bowls this weekend.
Two Online Helps for Summer Days

I'm using two fantastic websites this summer, My Food Diary and Goal For It to help simplify daily life.
My Food Diary
My Food Diary is exactly what it sounds like - an online journal of every bite that goes in my mouth. My Food Diary has an amazing data base of foods, including restaurant menus. In addition, you can manually enter individual food items and entire recipes. By creating a record of what I eat, I am more likely to make good choices all day long.
Happy Spring!

Happy first day of spring! When the children were little, we decided to do all the cute bunny - spring stuff on the first day of spring rather than Easter Sunday. We keep Easter focused on the resurrection of our Savior by moving all "fluff" to a different day.
Tough Times = Homemade Laundry Soap
Submitted by kim on Tue, 03/13/2012 - 09:01 in Homemaking
I could never be a homesteader. I like shopping malls and restaurants too much. So for a long time, I resisted doing something as pioneer-ish as making my own cleaning agents. It seemed too..... well homesteader and pioneer-ish for lack of any more adjectives. And besides, I really love Tide, and really love my routine.
But my husband's construction occupation is still in recession mode.
I've started making our laundry soap. There are thousands of recipes online. A quick Google search will even turn up how-to videos.
Super Summer Challenge

A few summers ago, I created the "Super Summer Challenge" for my children. Josiah, our 12 year-old, mentioned it one afternoon last week while we were walking. He asked that I create a similar system for him this coming summer. I love it when my children remember of something that worked well in the past and ask for a repeat!
What exactly is a super summer challenge? It is a list of activities customized for each child that helps them fill their long summer days AND develop new skills and habits.
RSS Feed Helps Set Goals

I've found a wonderful thing - RSS Feed! I read a number of blogs each day and staying current can be time consuming. One of the items on my to-do list all Fall was to learn about RSS Feeds and set my computer up to utilize this tool. Checked that one off the to-do yesterday and I'm loving it already! I just open one screen - Google Reader - and have all the blogs I'm following right there. WOW! If you already use an RSS feed, be sure to subscribe to Catching Foxes!

There are so many good websites out there to help with home management. Organizing Your Way offers planner pages for the Thanksgiving season and for the Christmas season. Love the budget worksheet for Christmas as it gives space for all those little things that come up over the holidays that we forget.
The Power of Smiling at Your Husband
Submitted by kim on Wed, 09/01/2010 - 14:10 in Homemaking, Marriage
Years ago on a frosty winter night I found myself at a table for four in a the cozy little house that had been converted to a restaurant. My date had arranged the evening so I could meet his best friend, Andi. What I didn't know prior to sitting at the table was that Andi was female, and she was married to Dave.
My relationship with my date didn't last. But at the time, I really liked him. So I was intrigued by Andi. Obviously, there was something about her that was like-able if she had earned the status of best friend to a guy!
I spent the evening watching her. Something about her has stayed with me for decades. Andi smiled at Dave constantly.

I've had the privilege over the years to get to know some delightful young women and watch them transition through various stages. My guest blogger today, Jessica A. is one of those special ladies. Her love of the Lord has always been an encouragement to me and I trust she will encourage you as you consider how you spend your free time each day.
Guest Blog: Making it Feel Like Home
Submitted by kim on Mon, 07/12/2010 - 08:54 in Homemaking
I have the special honor of knowing a handful of wonderful young women in their twenties, most either freshly married or planning their weddings this summer. I have asked them to submit thoughts on these early days of married life, setting up their homes, new recipes...any topics that might be of interest to the young wife just starting out in her lifetime commitment. Today, I am happy to feature our first guest blog, from my daughter.
Warning: if you are a mom - grab a kleenex!
